Pyro Squad

Still plenty to do on the new squad of Astartes from the Leviathan box, not actually learned the name I'm just calling them the pyro squad.

There's a definite improvement on the Dark Imperium push fit marines with these.

I can't see me getting another squad of these when the multi pose box of these comes out, as they just don't interest me.

Apothecary

Finished the base of the Apothecary off the other day, I just didn't get a photo of it and the pyro squad is in the shed getting a black coat on now, literally just flipped the sprues and sprayed the back before I came in and took those photos.

Photo Heavy Post

I had forgotten about finishing the base on the Apothecary, rest assured it was done the other night but as usual I don't have a photo.

And here's the beginning of the Dreadnought army. I want something different on the bases here but most of the GW base material paints are out of stock. Do other companies make these types of paint?

Even though I hadn't finished the base I still got a good photo with the Apothecary and Librarian facing the screaming killer.

And lastly I got a very nice photo of the Captain facing the Carniflex, these 2 where taken for a Facebook group I'm in Monthly Challenge, this month's theme was 'Bring it on' or as I interpreted it 'come and have a go if you think you are hard enough'. I really like the photo with the Captain framed by the outstretched claws.

I'm finishing at 10am today and there's a Lego kit and the Nephilm jet  fighter to build as well and I think I'm going to spray the flamer boys black today as it'll be nice.

Leviathan Librarian And Ballistus Dreadnought

To start off can I just say the light this weekend has been terrible, when I say it's been raining all weekend I mean it started to rain at stupid o'clock Saturday morning and isn't set to stop until Monday, so grey twilight to paint on.

I finished off the Ballistus Dreadnought and gave it a name, Sandelphode. In Good Omens he's named as one of the Angels that smote Sodom and Gomorrah which seemed fitting for the amount of fire power he'll put out.

I also got the Leviathan Terminator Librarian finished yesterday.
Started off with a thousand sons blue in the engraved parts of the armour then did temple guard blue on top, but when I came to do the cantor blue it just didn't work.
On the leg armour I ended up dry brushing the cantor blue on over the thousand sons blue.the rest of the mini had Cantor blue base and an agrax earthshade wash. I hit it with a Cantor blue dry brush and then a thousand sons blue on the engravings and then a highlight of temple guard. The pipe work and esoteric markings all got the temple guard blue highlights.

I still need to do the paper in the book and the skull on the base, which I should be able to get done tomorrow when I get home from work.

Contrast Baal Red

After getting a coat of primer on this one I had a long walk to let the primer dry. When back home after buying some beige primer and getting a coffee and watching the rain from a coffee shop window, I brought it on from the shed, gave the Baal red contrast a very good shake and made a start on the shooty fat Albert. Some places needed a second coat because the grey primer so got them. Once dry it had an agrax earthshade wash all over.

When that was dry I gave it a highlight of Evil Sunz scarlet and then old wild rider red. Then I went over the mechanical areas with black. I'll give them a dry brush with iron warrior in the morning. I'm planning a trip to Wigan first thing to pick up some more Evil Sunz scarlet as the current one is getting a bit dry and I'll probably add a pot of lead bleacher as well and check what textured paints they have in as for something else to the base with.

There's also the gold and details to do.

The Ballistics Dreadnought

Next kit from the Leviathan box, and a favourite of mine, the Dreadnought.

Wow I'm impressed with the ease that this goes together, I started a 10 minute video on YouTube, I'd finished building this before the video finished. If you've built a Redemptor dread you know how difficult the legs can be. This kit has the groin as 2 push fit bits the legs are both 2 piece push fits connecting to the groin at the hips and pushing into the feet.

The body is 3 major parts with 2 pipes and the 2 exhaust covers at the back pushed in.

The weapons go in better than the regular kit version.

I would be very happy if GW took the body of this kit and used it for the redemptor dread in general with just the arms and the extra armour on the Brutalis version as options in the box.

It's currently in the shed getting primed and I'm trying the Baal red contrast on this one as it will be the first one for the Dreadnought army.

Sternguard Veterans, Lieutenant and Apothecary

I'd given the sprure a beige primer spray. I'd got the ushabati bone on the Sternguard and Apothecary yesterday.

The Apothecary got a Nuln Oil wash first, then an ushabati bone, a  screaming skull layer then pallid wytch flesh with the detailing. There's just the base to go on this one.

The lieutenant got a Baal Angel contrast last night. This morning  I gave it a wash of agrax earthshade.

When that was dry I gave it an evil sunz scarlet, then the old wild rider red, then the new wild rider red .

All the belts today had a coat of balor brown then Agrax Earthshade wash. There's a couple of belts I missed on the nid plates, which got a similar colour scheme as the Screaming Killer as did the spore thing on the base.

Celebrants Terminator Captain, Screaming Killer And Terminator Squad

I went down to Bolton yesterday and ended up mooching around the Market Hall and Crompton place and was once again blown away by the art on display.

I got some advice on blending the contrast paints and brought them home to give it a go.

I mean it is just the same as blending layers, but with the different type of paint I was unsettled by it.

I definitely think I've done a cracking job on this guy.

As I'm packing stuff away today I got the set up out and got a photo of the Terminator squad in front of it. This squad also takes me to 104 Line Terminators.

Lastly the screaming killer was photographed with the good set up.

I've packed away a lot of paint pots as well, just leaving what I need for the Phobos Lieutenant who I'm doing as a Blood Angel so the grey scale Tyranid plates will stand out, the Apothecary and the Sternguard squad.

This was the tester piece I got to practice the blending.

As I'm starting these today I thought it only sensible to get a baseline pic. I've got a walk planned for Tuesday and been told we're more 'on call' rather than on days off next week because of the work situation, I'm hoping to get most of these done, I'm starting the Phobos Lieutenant when I finish sharing this post.

There is one last thing I want to share from yesterday, a couple of the paintings on display in Bolton's Market Hall work for characters in the Rainbow Sparkle Power Friends, but I love all the ones I saw.

I saw this and with where I am in the story right now, Morven's hair being dyed about 2 weeks before this point, her roots are growing through and the henna is fading and she's wearing armour, this picture is currently my frame of reference for Morven.

And while I'm almost certain that this is Brad Pitt in Troy I'm happy to use this painting as a reference for Claire in her armour.

Polished Off The Leviathan Terminators

A couple of bits added to these last night, green wash on the Aquila and a light grey dry brush on the bases.

Monthly Vow 12th Of July To The 12th Of August.

 How did I do?

As my main target was The Lion I did get that finished the other things were left as I got pissed off with work.
I did put the Captain up for a vote and waited for an answer, the Sternguard, Lieutenant and Apothecary are built and I plan to batch the Sternguard and Apothecary as they're mostly the same process with a couple of extra steps for the Apothecary.
The Librarian was built as well the Terminator squad and the Screaming Killer.

Goals For Next Month.

Apothecary, Librarian, Lieutenant and Sternguard for sure, I need some orange to finish the Captain off. I did get some red contrast paints to start the Blood Angels Dreadnoughts. Sounds like a reachable target.

Review Time

The Lion.
If you followed my progress you know how I did this with black and wet blending for the green highlights and silver edge work.
This really was an absolute delight to build and paint and I'd be happy to do another one to try and get a better finish.

All these got built the Sternguard, Lieutenant and Apothecary as they are on the same sprue, with the Captain getting a different paint scheme to everyone else as I'm 100% certain that Beliel will be getting a new mini when the Codex drops.

I started on the Captain after the vote was decided for the Celebrants Chapter.
I know I have the yellow down, and I'm sure I can get the orange to red sorted if I have a serviceable orange.
I started with averland sunset and the orange wash, with layers of yeril and flash git yellow. I hope I can get the orange to red sorted.

I put the Screaming Killer assembled and painted. I wanted something different than the Captain, and after watching a little bit of Centarworld and seeing the character afflicted with grey scale I wanted to have a crack at it with something that would look good with in greys.

I'm looking forward getting the Captain finished so I can have these 2 face off with the good set up.

I was torn about doing the base I was hoping to to do the base Martian Iron Crust but it had dried up so I had to go with Sterland mud which leaves a couple of bits to do to match the stuff it's standing on to the base.

The last bit, not quite finished before I set off for work this morning even if I said they're finished, are the Terminator squad. All that is needed is a wash on the chest as I got the agrax earthshade wash on the base done before I set off, the Sergeant also has a bit of a touching up to do on the legs.
