Contrast Baal Red

 

After getting a coat of primer on this one I had a long walk to let the primer dry. When back home after buying some beige primer and getting a coffee and watching the rain from a coffee shop window, I brought it on from the shed, gave the Baal red contrast a very good shake and made a start on the shooty fat Albert. Some places needed a second coat because the grey primer so got them. Once dry it had an agrax earthshade wash all over.

When that was dry I gave it a highlight of Evil Sunz scarlet and then old wild rider red. Then I went over the mechanical areas with black. I'll give them a dry brush with iron warrior in the morning. I'm planning a trip to Wigan first thing to pick up some more Evil Sunz scarlet as the current one is getting a bit dry and I'll probably add a pot of lead bleacher as well and check what textured paints they have in as for something else to the base with.

There's also the gold and details to do.

Yep target of 1 mini and I missed.

Well sort of. I did get most of the dreads sorted for the Blood Angels Dreadnought army, that I have, and the Heavy Intercessors finished.

Paint The Lion Proxy!

I have made a start there. I did buy a Nephilim/ Black Talon kit off a mate last week so build and paint that and hopefully the missile marines for this month. I did get my hands on a Leviathan box so looking forward to getting that and will add the mortis Redemptor Dread to the Dread Filled Month, which could well be stretched out here, I'd like to get the new Terminators done as well and that Librarian would be nice to add the 1st Company. 

In Summary. 

Paint The Lion, which I've started, Nephilim Jet fighter finished, the Leviathan box mortis dread built at least, 6 of the Terminators and a stretch goal of the missile marines. 

In Review. 

I started with the bases. 

As well as getting some Dreads located for the 10th Edition Blood Angels Dreadnought army.

The first thing I did was start on the heavy Intercessors as I chickened out of doing The Lion.

This was sourced from ebay for the dread army just needs a clean. 

The order arrived with my Contemptors, which I put together. I do like those sculpted bodies but it needs some knee pads and shoulder decoration.

And Saturday afternoon I got around to getting The Lion built at last.

The current state of it. 

Trying to decide between a nuln oil or a Coelia Greenshade wash on the robe and great coat.

Got Contemptor number 3 built yesterday with moulded body and plastic kit. It would look better with at least 1 knee pad and 1 shoulder pad that was moulded.

 So I assembled the Brutalis dread tonight while I had some time alone, lost the plates off the back of the storm bolters and 3 out of 8 claws.

I've also decided to paint this for the Blood Angels Dreadnought army. 

So options and build.

Two hand options are, for want of a better term, Lightening Claws and aggressors storm bolters.

You can certainly build both options from the spure as to fielding and storing, depends on the how much glue you use on the fingers. 

The body building is certainly a refinement from the gen 1 kits which is good but that bottom hinged plate just was not for sticking today.

Got home this morning to find a box with the 2 Blood Angels Contemptors and the Dark Angels Legion Leviathan which have had a look at then put to 1 side for now

Blood Angel Dreadnought Army

 This is the core Dreadnought force of the 10th Edition Blood Angels army. So far I've got 1 Death Company dread, 1 Librarian dread, 1 basic Dreadnought and 2 Venerable Dreadnoughts, obviously the purple one needs to be stripped. The 2 Redemptors will be broken down into component parts and stripped.

This is of course going to be started with the June to July Vow.

I put the last Dreadnought Talon in their box today, as I had most the dread boxes out I grabbed a group photo of the last Talon that is going to fit in that box. That Leviathan Talon and future Deredo Talon will need a new box, handily I need some new trainers so I'll have one before it's needed.

Yes sun screen was required today.

If I'm not too drunk and focused on Eurovision I'll be starting The Lion later as I need to grab some cat food and something for me to eat, I've got a real craving for some spare ribs. 

Contemptor

I got the Contemptor body and legs assembled. Okay the body was preassembled Dark Angel's Forge World body, you just need to add the exhaust pack from the kit and add the angel on the front. 

The body will get used on the base of one of the Knights I'm planning to buy. 

More magnets are on order for the weapons and I'm looking at buying another one of these kits to double up the weapons. There's a nebulous plan to buy the Blood Angels body for that and use it for the planned Blood Angel Dreadnought army. 

 

This is the planned method of how I'm going to paint The Lion. I started with a 50/50 mix of abbadon black and dark angel green, then mixing in progressively more green until the last edges are dark angel green, with an adge highlight of leadbleacher.

Well looks like I smashed the target this month by 2 dreads!

Whats the goal for next month? 

I'm going halves on the Ark of Omens box with Dark Angels under Siege from the forces of Chaos, so there is a squad of Primaris, a squad of Terminators and a plastic Azrael, need to find the green wash for his robes, there's the strike force box with its brutalis redemptor fat Albert, the desolation marines and 5 heavy Intercessors and I have 5 Tartarus Terminators to repaint for my 1st Company. I'll be happy if I get half of that done and delighted if I can get all 35 marines and Azrael finished, I did promise the dread to a mate and I need to check if my mate in Japan wants the Lieutenant from the strike force box.

REVIEW TIME. 

I was left in a good place last month with lots assembled. 

Everything was sort of done all at once this month, the first ones finished were the Cataphractii Terminators. Never having done a resin squad I can't compare, but these are a nice, easy build. 

The plastic Contemptor dreads. Again nice to build, would have preferred the company had kept the elbows the same but I suppose they have to sell the plastic weapons as well. I like them and will be adding a third one when the resin DA body gets released.

The Scorpius Missile Tank. Its a Rhino with a fancy hat. The mk2 Rhino is an old kit anyway and it had been a long time since I last put one together, there were a couple of issues but I think that that was more me priming and base costing on the sprue. Not that you can notice. I do like the launcher. 

And before I put it away I got a photo of it with its squadron. 

Blue sky/feeling flush with cash part 1.

Had a message from one of my game group pointing out a squad of Cataphractii Terminators, a Spartan and 20 marines for sale cheap. I picked up the Cataphractii and the Spartan for 58 quid. It was already built when I got it which gave me a couple of problems with painting, but once done you only see them if you go looking.

Next up was the second Spartan, this one new on sprue, prime and base coated a good 6ish hours assembly time and I didn't time myself on painting and I have a squadron of these.

I am thinking of adding a Thypon heavy seige tank as well, just because I enjoyed the build, but I really love my squadron of Spartans. 

I repainted Tinderwolf, giving him an upgrade with the Word Barers mk4 dread. 

And lastly there's the Grey Knight dread which had been a Heresy era Ultramarines dread, the icons got changed and the Dark Angels shin armour was added but that was all that was done. I'm not 100% sure but I still think I need at least 1 more Dreadnought building, will have to check my list. 

Target achivied and beaten and a stretch goal reached as well in month 2!
